The Segue Project
Instilled with the philosophy that assumes that all youth
have the potential for growth and positive development,
the Segue Project will serve as a demonstration project
that employs an individualized, wraparound approach to divert
at-risk youth, ages 14-18, from a path of juvenile delinquency
to a path of success, contributing citizenship, and eventual
gainful employment. Most unique within this program’s
design is its primary emphasis on economic assimilation
– becoming part of the American promise of social
and economic well-being. This offers a fresh alternative
to the more traditional delinquency prevention programs
that deliver a punitive response in the guise of “accountability”.
The paths of the Segue Project will offer opportunities
for youth to realize their (1) post-secondary/college; (2)
entrepreneurial / apprenticeship / vocational school; or
(3) immediate employment goals. In keeping with the principles
of wraparound, it will employ a holistic approach to its
treatment model, thus addressing the needs of the family
concurrently with its interventions directed toward its
youth.
Through its extensive network of volunteer mentors, the
Segue Project captures the spirit of those who have had
success in their own transformation from short-sighted expectations
to long-term professional and personal growth and achievement.
AIMSE is currently in discussions with local public agencies
to develop contracts to begin this work.
Ongoing Programs
Mainstream Society has maintained a continuing, supportive
relationship with the State of Maryland by creating technology
literacy centers in area churches and schools and by providing
both mentorship and computer network-related support at
area High Schools. By partnering with private firms and
individual donors, Mainstream Society has been able to donate
not only time, but money, computers and other helpful resources
to various educational and religious organizations in need
around the State.
